A Day-In-The-Life-With-Robert-Parker-Jr Back in 1983-84 / Seems Like Many Lifetimes Ago!

This was so long ago and yet I think it will be interesting for some to read this as there was a time before Robert Parker, Jr. of the Wine Advocate ( also referred to by some as God ) was not yet well-known or famous and was still struggling to be heard/ to make some money / to make a name for himself / to survive off his writing and the Wine Advocate and not as the lawyer that he once was before his wife that taught French convinced him to follow his wine dream. It was the time when he wrote wine reviews for the Washington Post newspaper, it was also the time before he had published anything but the Wine Advocate, before the internet and all the technology that puts everything at one's finger tips! It was a quieter and gentler time, where there was a delay response, where things were not immediate and where it took both effort and risk to learn things / taste things / have one's experience before you could read someone else's experience and basically not even have to bother to have your own experience and save your money if you wanted. It was a good time. I loved it. Being an artist I see that time as a time when my canvas, as well as everyone else's was basically still white and " virgin " and ready to be painted upon where dreams and hopes and aspirations and the promise of everything was palpable, tangible and really an important part of the equation. It was a time when each of us was able to be really intimately involved in our experiences with wine and not be so well-prepared and read and educated before we even sipped our first sip!

The Mayflower Wines and Spirits , ( wine tastings in and out of store) 2115 M Streets NM Washington DC 20037 202-463-7950 was many things to many people , one of those things was both wine tastings in the store as well as outside of it!

Here you see Sidney's assistant Karen Collins wrote a note and proposal to Ms. Janet Monell of the law firm Morgan, Lewis and Bockius with a proposal to conduct wine tastings their in the law offices for their partners and associates, the letter was dated May 30, 1985. Both her father, Aaron Millman and David Vaughn did tastings in the store, David went to do them outside the store. After observing both Aaron and David doing their wine tastings Inwas invited bybSidney to do them. i loved it, too. Will write more later,nAnthony Alan Quinn , happy Tuesday, February 10, 2026 , the day the 19/Buddhist monks on their walk from Texas artived in Washington DC, and during the Winter Olympics in both Milan and Cortina!

So great to be rediscovering, recovering, and now sharingin one place many of these pages, notes, lists, descriptions, names , dates, places, countries, styles of wine and more to tell a story of then in those times under those circumstances with those involved and a part of a story of wine and its great allure! profound, charming, a flirtation , sometimes brief, sometimes permanent, a spin, a folly, an oh gee by golly, a glad to know, glad to taste, done this now and will move on, wht's all the fuss a out, nwow - fascinating! just added three pictures with the wines to be tasted of Bordeaux, and another of the wines of the southwest of France to be tasted in classes conducted by me, my writing in cursive and fine block letters. Happy Sunday February 15, 2026, hope everyone enjoyed Happy Valentine's Day yesterday, the 19 Buddhist monks continued their walk for peace, Norway won in the Women's cross country race in the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina!
